When we started thirteen years ago, we had three females and their crias. We did one fence in front of the house, using roughly 2 acres of land. That was all it took. Times have changed! 5 years later, we cut this pasture in three parts, keeping the front of the house used just in special occasions.
Now thirteen years later, we have one pasture with a small barn for the males, still the special area in front of the house, a large space on front and sides of the barn without any grass where the alpacas spend most of their time. There is also a small pasture next to the driveway where, in the Autumn, we let the crias run all together, and another pasture next to the pond. Finally, we have one new area in front of the barn with nice shade but where the grass is not growing as much as we wish.
